Stephen Barry
Stephen Barry was born in New York City and studied painting at Boston University, The Boston Museum School and The Art Students League of New York. After an early career as an art director in New York City, he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to continue his varied career in advertising and illustration.
Always drawn to the personal fulfillment of the creative process, he eventually chose to devote all his time to painting. He quickly established himself as a commissioned portrait painter, won numerous awards and competitions and was asked to join the faculty at the prestigious Institute of American Indian Arts where he taught painting and drawing.
Mr. Barry has recently moved to the Fort Worth area where he paints scenes from his many travels as well as painting oil portraits on commission. He is currently represented in Fort Worth by Milan Gallery and in Santa Fe, NM by Editions Gallery.

“The focus of my work is on the human experience; its prevailing tone being meditative, quiet… sometimes denoting inner thoughts. Underlying this as an approach that places an emphasis on seeking out those intangible aspects that allow us to penetrate the inner landscape of the self. More compelling than what is viewed by the eye is that which can be perceived by the human heart.”
