Gregory R. Beck
Sculptor-Painter
"I sculpt to capture emotion… I paint to release it" - GRB

Art & Antiques Magazine, June 2004 issue“After a successful commercial graphics career, Beck embarked on a path as a self-taught sculptor and painter, and quickly rose to immediate international acclaim. His bronze sculptures were honored by inclusion in the Biennale Internazionale dell’ Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy, last December. ‘My work is based on emotion and human relationships,’ Beck says. His figurative bronze sculptures reflect the influence of classical realism and explore the intricacies of the human condition through fluid movement and passionate expression.”

In 2000, after the death of his wife, Beck returned to fine art with a passion and dedicated himself to painting and for the first time, sculpting. Beck traveled Europe surrounding himself with the works of Renaissance masters. Self-taught, he spent the summer of 2001 sculpting in Florence, Italy, inspired by the city, it’s people, and timeless art treasures.

Gregory was invited to represent the United States at the Biennale Internazionale dell' Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy, December 2003. This is a bi-annual exhibition held at the Fortezza da Basso. Participation in the Florence Biennale is by nomination only. Artists participating in the event are selected solely on the basis of the merit of their works, with no prejudices as to style, theme, or artistic movement. An international jury of nearly 50 art historians, world-renowned museum curators, and critics make the selection of artists. This exhibit features nearly 800 artists from 54 nations. Gregory featured three of his bronze sculptures at this exciting event.

Dr. Herbert R. Spiers, SI Fine Art, NY, NY- 2005 - “Filled with movement and grace, Beck's bronzes echo the purity of line and form found in classical sculpture. His beautiful and inspirational works offer detailed human anatomy that is powerfully emphasized to draw focus to the physical responses of the mind and emotions. Due to his perceptive understanding of physiology and the fact that models are not used, from conception each sculpture is unique in its composition. In Beck’s own words,“I prefer to work from imagination rather than limiting myself to reproducing only what I see” . In a collector’s own words, “Beck’s sculpture moves my soul and represents an almost mythical realm of beauty.

Beck’s sculpture, original drawings and paintings, along with major commissioned pieces are held in many private and corporate collections in the United States and Western Europe. To view more of Gregory Beck’s artwork please visit the online portfolio at:
